ORIM Weekly W30 2025
ORIM WEEKLY The weekly letter on preventive immunonutrition | WEEK 30 July 28 - August 3, 2025 |
EDITORIAL
As July ends and August begins, we reflect on the extraordinary bounty of summer. This week, we examine how AI is being used to predict and prevent foodborne illness outbreaks and explore the science of how specific amino acids support neurotransmitter production during the high-energy summer months.

AI Predicts Foodborne Illness Outbreaks 7 Days Ahead
The CDC deployed an AI model that combines weather data, social media sentiment, restaurant inspection records, and emergency room data to predict foodborne illness outbreaks 7 days in advance with 80% accuracy. The system has prevented an estimated 50,000 cases in its first year.
Regenerative Cotton Farming Produces Edible Protein
Texas A&M developed a low-gossypol cotton variety whose seeds are safe for human consumption. Cotton seeds provide 23g of protein per 100g with a complete amino acid profile. Regenerative cotton farming now produces both fiber and food from the same crop, doubling land productivity.
Precision Nutrition Vending Machines in Airports
Farmer's Fridge expanded to 1,000 smart vending machines in US airports, offering fresh, nutrient-dense meals assembled daily. AI manages inventory based on flight schedules and time of day, reducing waste by 70% while providing travelers with meals tailored to circadian disruption from time zone changes.

Amino Acids and Neurotransmitter Production
A review in Molecular Psychiatry (Aug 2025) mapped how dietary amino acids become neurotransmitters: tryptophan to serotonin, tyrosine to dopamine, glutamate to GABA. The authors showed that strategic amino acid timing (tryptophan at dinner, tyrosine at breakfast) can optimize mood and cognitive performance throughout the day.
Turkey and eggs at breakfast (tyrosine) support alertness. Dairy and bananas at dinner (tryptophan) support serotonin and melatonin for sleep. Sequence matters.
THIS WEEK IN BRIEF
► Dopamine: Tyrosine-rich breakfast (eggs, cheese) improves sustained attention by 20% compared to a carbohydrate-heavy breakfast (Neuropsychopharmacology, 2025).
► Serotonin: Tryptophan from food reaches the brain best when consumed with carbohydrates, which lower competing amino acids (Am J Clin Nutr, 2025).
► GABA: Fermented foods naturally contain GABA, which crosses the blood-brain barrier and reduces anxiety within 1 hour of consumption (Neurogastroenterology, 2025).
03 | ORIM OF THE WEEK: CHRONOBIOLOGICAL RECIPES |
DAY | MAIN MEAL | CHRONO PRINCIPLE |
MONDAY | Egg and cheese breakfast wrap with spinach and tomato | Tyrosine + choline + iron. Dopamine-boosting morning meal for focus. |
TUESDAY | Grilled chicken breast with quinoa and mango salsa | Tyrosine + complete protein + vitamin C. Midday energy and alertness. |
WEDNESDAY | Turkey and avocado club with sweet potato fries | Tryptophan + monounsaturated fats + beta-carotene. Balanced energy for midweek. |
THURSDAY | Grilled tuna with edamame and sesame noodle salad | DHA + isoflavones + sesamin. Brain-nourishing summer Asian bowl. |
FRIDAY | Prawn and mango summer rolls with peanut dipping sauce | Astaxanthin + vitamin C + resveratrol (peanuts). Light and fresh Friday. |
SATURDAY | Banana and walnut pancakes with Greek yogurt and honey | Tryptophan + omega-3 + probiotics. Weekend serotonin-supporting breakfast. |
SUNDAY | Slow-roasted chicken with ratatouille and herbed couscous | Complete amino acid profile + lycopene + complex carbs. Restorative Sunday. |
ORIM Tip: Eat tyrosine-rich foods (eggs, cheese, turkey) in the morning for dopamine and alertness. Eat tryptophan-rich foods (dairy, bananas, seeds) in the evening for serotonin and sleep preparation.
